Film grammar / Camera movements
Dolly In
Camera on tracks moving toward the subject.
What it is
A dolly in is a push-in performed on a dolly - a wheeled platform on rails - which makes the move perfectly smooth. The term is often used interchangeably with push-in.
When to use it
Classic uses: approaching a character at a desk, entering a room, moving toward a reveal.
How to prompt it
Models understand both "dolly in" and "dolly-in". Specify speed ("slow", "steady") - an unspecified dolly is often too fast.
Slow dolly-in, a scientist alone in a dark laboratory lit by the green glow of a monitor, she leans toward the screen as data scrolls.
