Film grammar / Camera angles
Overhead Shot
Top-down, "God's eye" view.
What it is
An overhead or top-down shot points the camera straight down. It turns scenes into graphic compositions - food on a table, a body on a bed, a spiral staircase.
When to use it
It is emotionally distant and very designed, which is why music videos and title sequences love it.
How to prompt it
Use "top-down overhead shot, camera pointing straight down". For motion, a slow rotation around the vertical axis works well.
Top-down overhead shot, a teenage girl lying on her bed surrounded by posters and fairy lights, headphones on, slow rotation, 24mm.
