Film grammar / Camera angles
Eye Level Shot
Neutral height; the audience stands with the character.
What it is
An eye level shot keeps the lens at the subject's eye height. It is the invisible default - it neither empowers nor diminishes anyone.
When to use it
Because it is neutral, small deviations from it (slightly low, slightly high) carry meaning.
How to prompt it
Most models default to eye level; you only need to say it when you also ask for a dramatic lens or movement that might pull the camera up.
Eye level, medium shot, two strangers in a red vinyl diner booth at night, rain on the window, static camera, 50mm.
